Hi, my name is Alexander Hodge and I am the owner of www.shoovantiques.co.uk based in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway. Inspired after watching Salvage Hunters, I purchased my first ever antique in Llandudno, North Wales; a copper pan bed warmer, in a closing down sale with 50% off. Delighted, I felt like i'd won the lottery!
After visiting my first ever auction at Thomson Roddick in Dumfries, I was successful with a bid of £25 for a bakelite telephone. The plot thickened as I felt a tap on my shoulder about 15mins after that bid. The gentleman began to explain that he had arrived late to the auction, missed his opportunity to bid for the bakelite telephone, and would I be willing to sell it on to him?
We agreed on a price of £50.
My first ever venture into the world of the antiques auction, and I had doubled my money within 15mins! I was hooked and a momentum that would pave the way for a business had begun.
shoov...
you may be thinking 'that's an odd name.'
But every name has a meaning...
shoov...is the phonetical spelling of the Hebrew word שׁוּב, which means to "renew" or "restore" something.
I have a passion to find items that maybe overlooked, undervalued or forgotten, to "renew" & "restore" them back to their former glories & sell them on for a profit!
